Abstract: (18 Views)
Background and Objective: Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas are catecholamine-secreting tumors arising from chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla and sympathetic ganglia. Bladder paragangliomas account for less than 0.05% of all bladder tumors and approximately 10% of extra-adrenal paragangliomas. Given the rarity of bladder paraganglioma, we present a case incidentally detected as a bladder mass.
Patient introduction: A 63-year-old woman was referred to the urology clinic following the incidental detection of a 15 mm mass on the left side of the urinary bladder during ultrasonography. She reported no history of blood pressure fluctuations. Based on clinical evaluation and paraclinical findings, the patient was scheduled for transurethral resection of the bladder mass (TURBT).
Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of considering paraganglioma in the differential diagnosis of bladder masses, particularly in patients with suspicious clinical manifestations. Early diagnosis and the selection of an appropriate surgical approach can play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes.
